The two new unitary councils of Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council began operating on April 1st. Cumberland Council replaces Allerdale Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, and Cumbria County Council. Westmorland and Furness Council replaces South Lakeland District Council, Eden District Council, Barrow Borough Council, and Cumbria County Council.
