Position Statement on Self Directed Support in Scotland

On the first anniversary of the duties of the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act coming into effect, the Care Inspectorate has published a Position Statement on Self-directed Support (SDS).

The three page Position Statement focuses mainly on what the Care Inspectorate will require from providers in the context of SDS rather than setting out how its own practice might change and develop, although the Care Inspectorate do say ‘we are as committed to developing and improving our own approaches as we are to supporting improvement in the services we regulate.’  They go on to mention that they are currently ‘reviewing the inspection methodology to take a ‘rights-based’ approach and will focus on evidencing improved outcomes for individuals receiving care and support’.
