Hello,

aebal Leisure is a Nottinghamshire based service set up to help people with a learning disability and/or mental health problem to become more active.

We focus on getting to know you as a unique individual and then being really creative by sourcing activities and opportunities that match your needs. The support offered is one to one and also in small friendship groups of two and three. We have found there is real value in this approach as genuine friendships are made through similar interests and abilities.

All the sessions take place out in the local community or further afield. We support you as much or as little as is necessary and source mainstream activities when ever possible. We have a few dedicated spaces but generally we prefer to be outside and to try a variety of public venues.

To give you an insight into the type of support we provide, here’s a summary of what we got up to last week!

Monday – The morning involved two of the people who use our service volunteering at a community garden. Wreaths were created and fire was made to make tea! In the afternoon we supported another person to go to a climbing centre in town.

Tuesday – We supported someone to learn Japanese. In the afternoon we went swimming.

Wednesday – Two friends went to the cinema to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Thursday – A shopping trip into town with some transport training. In the evening we did our regular cooking social with three friends making fajitas!

Friday – Road trip to the Yorkshire Dales for a photography session. Some great photos of foggy sheep and also picked up some Wensleydale Cheese from the dairy.

Saturday – Two friends went to Butterley railway to check out some steam trains and classic buses. Was absolutely freezing!

Sunday – Rest 🙂

We also love regularly documenting our service users experiences on our blog with photos and funny stories from the sessions, so take a look!

Thanks for reading,

Jason
