Freedom Day Centre

My name is Tracey, and I’m a married mum with 2 children.  My son has Fragile X Syndrome and Autism, and my brothers also have the same condition.  I have a lot of family members with other disabilities, so I feel I know a lot about living a daily life with someone who has a disability.

12 months ago I set up a weekly disco for people with learning disabilities in my village of Badsey which is near Evesham in Worcestershire.  This proved very popular with people coming from up to 20 miles away.

We are a big family where we celebrate birthdays and go out visiting places.  Family members help with fundraising events now, so I started fundraising to get our own minibus to transport them.  In 5 months £10,000 had been raised and we now own a lovely bright green and yellow bus which has become very well known in our area.

I then decided I would start fundraising for a day centre as we have no day services in the area that are suitable for the more younger person.  So in 6 weeks £12,000 had been raised and then it was all systems go, and we open up in Badsey on July 10th.  Our new service, Freedom Day Centre is a family run group who employ individuals with a passion for making a difference to people’s lives and who also have a wide range of knowledge in caring for individuals with a learning disability.  We aim to provide a variety of educational, social and leisure activities. The range of activities we aim to provide are: a computer workshop, cookery, healthy lifestyle, a gym, yoga, woodwork, pottery, arts and crafts, music and dance, and gardening.

Alongside all of this fun there will be educational days out, and we will also run a community café where clients will be encouraged to bake and serve in there.

Please do get in touch if you would like to find out more.
