My name is Gary and I am the owner of Friendly Befriending in Worcester.
I offer face to face appointments for people who are socially isolated and in need of company.
I can visit you at your property and have a cup of tea and a chat or we can meet at a neutral venue e.g. library/coffee shop/park. My main skill is being a good listener and helping you to talk through your thoughts.
I have worked in the charity sector for ten years – mainly as a Social Prescriber – and in that time I have encountered lots of people who require befriending. What I mainly offer is a talking service where you get the chance to discuss what is on your mind without judgement from myself.
I am not a care worker or a support worker so I do not provide personal care. I am fully insured and my car insurance allows me to take people in my vehicle if they do not drive. However, I am not a taxi service.
I am happy to have an in depth chat with you to see if my service is the correct one for you. During this chat we will establish what type of help you require. It could be just having a chat or it could be that you have lost your confidence and over a number of weeks we would aim to get you back out into the community -if this is what you desire.
The aim of this service is to improve your emotional wellbeing and improve your lifestyle. This could be in a number of ways, either via volunteering or social groups. You may have lost a loved one and are grieving. I am not a bereavement counsellor but I can help and link you in with the correct services. I personally have my own challenges, so physically I’m not in a position to go shopping for – and with – people.
In a nutshell, Friendly Befriending can help you start a journey that suits you and whatever you decide I’m happy to help you discover what that route is.
