Hertfordshire Independent Social Support (HertsISS) is a small community based provider offering a range of services and support, including one to one support, group activities and short breaks and holidays.

We work with people living with mental health problems, and people living with Aspergers Syndrome.

We believe that the real way to social integration and social inclusion is to take part in activities that everyone in the community enjoys and takes for granted and we are committed to providing social support that fulfils these objectives.

Our one to one and group work will provide a safe and supported environment to take small and sometimes challenging steps on the path to recovery. We are happy to work with all people who have a social care element of their personal budget or with people who may wish to self-fund social activities.

We take great pride in the service we provide and feel that we are able to offer something different; being independent, we can be flexible and original and we can work with you in a way that can be tailored to your own individual needs and requirements.

Our one to one support

Anyone can encounter times when they find it hard to cope with the stress of modern life. When you have a mental health problem these difficulties can seem insurmountable.

With many years’ experience of working with people, we have gained a great deal of knowledge in dealing with issues including:

·         Housing problems and employment

·         Voluntary work and education

·         Benefit advice and debt management

·         Low motivation

Our staff are experienced and trained to deal with complex problems but also day to day problems that can arise. We have many contacts with other local organisations and can ‘sign post’ people to the best help that is available. This help is offered as a partnership of joint effort, encouraging you to take control but with the personal support you require​.

Our group activities

We all need some fun in our lives, though many people are socially isolated and miss out on meeting up with friends and enjoying a shared experience.  Since HertsISS started in September 2012, we have supported small groups of people to take enjoy various activities that have been suggested by them.  These activities have included day trips to York, football matches in Luton, shows at the Comedy Store in London, a day at Newmarket races, going to the local cinema, ten-pin bowling and local restaurants. We also also assist people to take part in physical activities such as swimming.

Our short breaks and holidays

We have also worked with several service users in enabling them to  have a short break holiday. These holidays have been in a hotel, caravan and luxury lodge.
