Inspired Disability Awareness

We provide disability awareness training that is aimed at helping businesses, organisations and individuals to understand the impact of living with disability. It is designed to show how small changes can improve the lives of people with disabilities.

I have previously worked for a local disability charity as well as working and volunteering in the advice sector.  I have a unique appreciation of the issues that disabled people have which started from a young age. Having awareness gave me the confidence to understand the difficulties faced by other people with disabilities for example I would talk to children who were severely disabled and none verbal, including them in conversations, games etc and not just talk over them to their parents and carers.  I use this experience and knowledge of disabilities as well as research to deliver well thought out courses to fit with the participant’s needs and learning outcomes. The training sessions are informative, using a combination of PowerPoints, discussions and games to make the learners more aware of some of the issues faced by disabled people.

Our current courses improve awareness and understanding around people with learning disabilities and autism, and this training is based on the government recommendations for delivering learning disability and autism training, ‘The Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability’. We have so far successfully promoted the need for this awareness training with a local domiciliary provider, working with them for over a year now as well as provided the training to some local charities.
