Living It Up Events

Living It Up Events was set up in 2009.

We know that not feeling safe when you go out for a drink at the weekend can stop you from going out.  We put on events every other month in a safe environment to help you to go out and have fun.  We have lots of volunteers at the event so if you are on your own we can help you you to meet other people.  Sometimes we have a nightclub night and sometimes we have a gig night where he have live bands playing.  We have also had karaoke nights.

We are different to other local services for adults with learning disabilities as we always make sure that we have a licensed bar at our events.  We try and hold them in places where there is already a party atmosphere.

We have a members commitee that helps us to plan the events.  It is important to us that we respect each other for who they are and that everyone has fun in a safe way.

We also have a Performing Arts Centre that is open 4 days a week.  The Performing Arts Centre has 2 bands made up of people with and without learning disabilities.  The bands have played at Oxjam, The Bedford High Street Showcase and at Esquires.  Everyone is welcome to join the band.  We can help you to learn an instrument or to grow the confidence to get up and sing in front of people.  The band members choose the songs that we will cover at performance.  We are going to start writing some of our own music shortly.

The Performing Arts Centre also has a live radio show that is broadcast on internet radio on a Wednesday afternoon.

The drama group at the Performing Arts Centre write and star in their own productions that are then shown to a ticket buying audience.

We have a project called Gr8 Mates.  This started as we knew how difficult some people find it to meet new people and make new friends, or find a girlfriend or boyfriend.  Gr8 Mates can support you to make new friends in a safe way.

Gig Buddies is our other project.  This project matches people with learning disabilties and/or autism with volunteers based on things that people like doing.  This could be live music, watching sports, going out for a meal, going to the theatre or cinema, whatever your “gig” is.
