Walk Tall Nordic Walking

Hello, my name is Julia and having been an active ‘outdoor’ person all my life I decided a few years ago to train as a British Nordic Walking Instructor, so I could share this wonderful activity with other people. Having experienced myself the positive affects, both mentally and physically, of exercising in the great outdoors I felt there must be a vast number of people who could benefit from this within my community. Meeting my local Community Catalyst and signing up as a Micro Enterprise within that programme has introduced me to those that will benefit most from this wonderful activity. I teach all or part of the 10-Step British Nordic Walking technique, which hugely improves posture, muscle strength, bone density and balance alongside improving the cardiovascular system and metabolic rate. But as important to me is the positive affect nordic walking has on mental health and wellbeing. I love seeing my walkers growing in confidence, making new friends and generally enjoying themselves. But I am also very aware of health & safety issues, making safety a priority at all times. I’ll also ask you to fill in a ‘declaration of health’ form, something that as a British Nordic Walking Instructor I am obliged to do.

In order to join my walking groups you must have completed at least one Introductory Session where I will explain and demonstrate the history of Nordic walking and the technique – I will provide poles for these sessions. From here on you can either have a ‘build on skills learnt’ session or, if you’re feeling confident, come on a guided walk.  I’ll always make sure that the walk is suitable for you and have no great expectations other than you have a go, and have a bit of fun. This is a non competitive activity so the pressure is off! For those that would like we get together after the walk for tea/coffee/cake/biscuits and a good old chat. This is where friendships are cemented, questions answered and plans made for the next walk.

So please do get in touch. I will be running Beginners sessions in the new year in Bath and surrounding areas and can accommodate individuals or groups. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the very wonderful world of Nordic Walking.
