Way To Go

Hi I am Andy and I run a unique and independent service providing community-based support for individuals with a variety of different aspects of daily living whilst promoting involvement in the wider community wherever possible.

I work mainly with individuals who have a learning disability. However Way To Go also accepts referrals from other individuals who would like support.

The community-based support I can provide in different aspects of daily living includes:-

  •       Personal care
  •        Life skills & personal development
  •       Shopping support
  •       Employment support
  •       Community involvement

All support provided on a 1:1 support basis focused entirely on the individual. As everyone is unique and that I recognise that there is potential for developing skills and community involvement in different aspects of daily living. Way To Go will provide a unique and individually tailored support and action plan. I believe in the importance of working alongside the individual to achieve their own goals that will greatly enhance quality of life by taking small steps at a time much can be achieved.

Through Andy’s work and personal life experience Way To Go can provide a further unique service of supporting individuals to be actively engaged and play a part in their local community. This could involve supporting the individual to develop skills to advocate for themselves and take on active roles with local community groups according to their own individual interests.

I have a vast experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities having worked in the learning disability service since 2011 alongside many different individuals in a wide variety of settings. Whilst developing my experience I have also obtained the level three QCF Diploma in Health & Social care (learning disabilities pathway) and a wide range of other training.

At an early age I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia. I have never let this get in the way of leading the life that I want.  Through my personal life experience, I have discovered that by pushing my own boundaries I have been able to overcome different challenges.

Pushing my boundaries has involved throwing myself into active roles within my local community which has involved being elected as a city and district councillor in the beautiful city of Wells and Mendip district council serving a full term between 2011 and 2015.

Therefore, I want to provide this unique service of promoting community inclusion in a very person-centred way within Way To Go as I understand the huge benefits that it can have on someone’s personal development and confidence.

In my spare time I enjoy walking and exploring our countryside and being involved in different social groups.
