Yoga for Children and Adults with Special Needs

Hello, my name is Wendy Sugg, I am based in Somerset and I am a fully qualified insured and DBS checked yoga teacher of integral yoga, a stress management consultant, and a massage therapist, with over 20 years’ experience both in the UK and abroad.

I have over 20 years experience of sharing the many benefits of yoga with people who may have limitations, disabilities or mental health issues. I am also one of the few yoga teachers in the South West of England who has been specifically trained to work with children with special needs.  I feel truly privileged to have witnessed how yoga has improved the lives of the children and adults I have worked with, regardless of their disabilities, limitations or conditions.

It is my passionate belief that yoga should be very inclusive and that everybody, no matter what their needs, should have the opportunity to be able to enjoy the many benefits of yoga.  With this in mind, I have developed the following yoga programmes:

  • Gentle Therapeutic Yoga For Children with Special Needs
  • 1 to 1 Yoga

Direct payments are accepted and invoices issued for each of these programmes, and if I am travelling to you, a travel surcharge may apply.  If you have any concerns, please check with a doctor before beginning yoga.

Below is brief summary of each of the programmes that I offer, which I hope you will enjoy reading about.

Gentle Therapeutic Yoga For Children with Special Needs

This is a gentle and therapeutic form of yoga that is safe for babies and children with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, ADD, ADHD and other developmental disabilities.

This simple and fun yoga programme is designed to increase cognitive and motor skills, improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity.

One to one yoga sessions are ideal for less abled children and small groups can be conducted for more able bodied students.

Sessions can be conducted either in the home, care facility or in school and provides the children with not only a therapeutic activity; but also helps them to experience a sense of peace and wellbeing.

A brief medical questionnaire will be required before the initial session, in order to determine a child’s individual needs and to create a personal yoga plan.

1 to 1 Yoga

This gentle yoga is ideal for people with limitations, disabilities or physical challenges such as back problems, arthritis, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart problems and people recovering from illness or injury.  It is especially beneficial for older people, helping to increase mobility and reduce the aches and pains of aging.

These therapeutic yoga sessions are tailored to suit the particular needs of each individual person, and take place in the comfort of your own home. You can find out more by clicking here
