Spotlight on: Abingdon Homecare

“I have some lovely memories. I remember taking one gentleman to a Christmas fair towards the end of his life – he was so excited to see the light-up reindeer, he absolutely loved it. I am really glad I was able to take him.”  Charmin, Abingdon Homecare

Charmin runs Abingdon Homecare, offering care and support for people of all ages, and specialising in dementia services. Charmin got in touch with Community Catalysts to see what support was available to her as an existing community enterprise leader.

“Anita from Community Catalysts has been fantastic, she’s there at the end of the phone or on email and she will help and guide you as much as she can. She’s been great at hooking me in with other local people doing the same thing so I can get cover for when I am on holiday. Community Catalysts has also helped me to understand the regulation better, about when and how I can work with other self-employed carers.”  Charmin, Abingdon Homecare

Charmin has a lot of personal and professional care experience so is a valuable member of the Community Catalysts’ peer network locally.

“I have also grown my knowledge of the practical support available locally such as community activities like the memory café, or how to get hold of things like incontinence pads through the GP. A lot of people are afraid to ask for help, they don’t know what support they can get in the community.”  Charmin, Abingdon Homecare

Community Catalysts has also been able to help Charmin get listed on local directories with local organisations so that more people can benefit from her service.
