Staying vigilant through the Coronavirus pandemic and avoiding scams

As always in these sort of situations there are people out there ready to exploit and take advantage. We might be using technology we’re not used to or just caught off guard – our message is just to remain vigilant of scams! Here are a couple of examples doing the rounds at the moment:

  • WhatsApp: https://www.techradar.com/news/whatsapp-gold-its-a-hoax
  • HMRC: There has been a rise in unsolicited calls purporting to be from HMRC regarding tax and Government grants. If you have any concerns about phone calls you receive from HMRC you can email the phishing team: phishing@hmrc.gov.uk . There are also further details about how you can spot HMRC scams here

You can find out more about general scams and how to report them here.
