The Harms of Hate – a short film about hate crime
Seven victims of hate crime share their stories on this short film which was produced by the Leicester Centre for Hate Studies at the University of Leicester. This film draws on the experience and research developed during the two year Leicester Hate Crime Project which heard from nearly 1,500 people who had been victimised because of their identity or perceived difference.
Their experiences took many forms, from violent physical attacks to the more ‘everyday’ forms of harassment such as being called an abusive name, being spat at and being threatened. The project also exposed the significant physical and emotional impact that hate offences have on victims, families and communities.
The Leicester Hate Crime Project website has been designed so that people can interact with the project on many different levels. Using the panel of tabs, people can find information all about the project, the research team and their findings.
